LED tubes are one of the most preferred LED lighting fixtures used in residential and commercial locations. People prefer using T8 LED bulbs and consider them an apt lighting option. One of the main reasons why T8 LED tube lights is because they are ideal for almost every atmosphere, like households, offices, department stores, shopping centers, workshops, etcetera. Plus, installing them is petty easy as they don’t contain a hefty installation process. Moving forward, we will be learning how to install single and double-ended LED tubes and the major differences between them.

Safety is the priority!

Since you are dealing with an electric current while installing the T8 LED tube light, you must ensure that you follow every safety measure before installing the light. 

How to install single-ended T8 LED bulbs?

  • Turn down the main power supply
  • Remove the ballast
  • Pick a non-shunted lamp holder and connect the N & L wires of the LED tube with the N & L wires of the lamp holder.
  • Fix the bracket and lamp
  • Turn on the power supply.

How to install double-ended T8 LED bulbs?

  • Turn down the main power supply prior to installing the lamp
  • Take out the wires and ballast. If you want a ballast bypass, you can remove it from the fixture.
  • Connect the neutral and live wires with the mains from each end of the LED tube.
  • Fix the bracket and lamp
  • Turn on the power supply.

The difference between single-ended T8 LED tube lights and double-ended T8 LED bulbs

People might often get confused that single-ended and double-ended T8 LED tube lights are any different? If so, then how? Well, if you are not from a lighting background, understanding this concept might be difficult for you. For a general understanding, people only know the concept of the light illumination process. For them, lighting a bulb needs the fixture and current. However, every fixture is different from the other. Here, you will get to know the difference between single-ended and double-ended T8 LED bulbs.

In a single-ended LED tube light, the neutral pint, input end, and the main line will all be on the same end. However, if you are considering retrofitting the fluorescent fixture, you will need to replace the shunted tombstones with non-shunted ones from the other ones.

A single-ended T8 LED tube light does not need a ballast to glow. It can be directly installed by connecting a direct wire. But, removing the ballast and replacing the tombstones is recommended if you are using it for retrofits.

Take the T8 LED bulbs as an example, both live and neutral pins are at the single end of these tubes. You are required to remove the ballast and connect the tube directly to the holder to pass the AC current. Adding to that, the benefit of a single-end LED tube is that it eliminates unwanted hardware, consumes less energy, and results in fewer failure points in the fixture.

Double-ended T8 LED bulbs

On the other hand, in a double-ended LED tube, the light will contain the neutral pin and the live pin, i.e., the main current line, both at the opposite ends. The conventional fluorescent tubes were double-ended. Plus, retrofitting the lamps is easier from both ends. A double-ended LED tube has shunted lamp holders. So, you are not needed to replace the previous holders. Simply connect the live end wire to an AC source and the neutral end wire to the neutral source via ballast bypass to install the tube light.
